This course introduces the student to the language and tools of digital photography. Through demonstrations and exercises, students will learn the basics of creative camera work, composition, lighting, exposure, digital editing software and color digital printing. Through a series of lectures, readings and discussions students are introduced to different ways of conceptualizing photography, and students will examine a range of historical and contemporary photo work as an essential part of understanding the possibilities of image making. This is a project-structured course where assignments are designed to emphasize the versatility of the medium and to promote individual expression. There are six hours of weekly class time that includes lecture, technical demonstrations, image presentations, group critique and in-class work time. [AH]
